Four Generations of Precision
In 1945, Arthur and Catherine — the "A" and the "C" in ACAL — built a small family grinding shop on hard work, integrity, and pride in doing things right. More than a business, it was a promise to create something lasting for the generations to come.
Four generations later, that promise has been carefully carried forward. Each generation learned the trade hands-on, adding new capabilities while honoring the foundation Arthur and Catherine laid together — guiding ACAL's evolution from precision grinding into full turnkey CNC manufacturing.
Today, we serve aerospace, automotive, defense, and general industrial clients. Our core grinding expertise remains at the heart of what we do — and ACAL is still a family company, driven by the same care and craftsmanship it was built on.
1945 — ACAL Is Founded
Arthur, his wife Catherine, and their partner Al establish ACAL Universal Grinding Co. as a precision grinding shop built on craftsmanship, integrity, and family values.
1950s–1960s — Precision Grinding Reputation
ACAL earns a reputation for tight-tolerance grinding during the growth of American manufacturing.
The second generation, led by Nick and Edward, modernized operations while preserving the company’s hands-on expertise. Under their leadership, ACAL evolved from a job-shop grinding business into a full-service industrial grinding operation, expanding its capabilities with a wide range of industrial grinding equipment to better support customer needs.
Tom and Joe ushered in the third generation of leadership, expanding the company’s capabilities by integrating CNC turning and milling alongside its established grinding expertise. This strategic investment allowed the company to offer more complete machining solutions, improve production efficiency, and take on increasingly complex projects.
Through continued investment in advanced CNC technology, ACAL expanded beyond traditional grinding services to offer complete turnkey manufacturing solutions. As the business grew and diversified, the company changed its name from ACAL Universal Grinding Co. to ACAL Precision Products to better reflect its expanded capabilities and modern manufacturing expertise.
Under fourth-generation leadership with Steven, ACAL has expanded its capabilities by adding in-house engineering expertise, further strengthening its precision manufacturing services. This continued growth allows the company to deliver high-quality solutions across the aerospace, automotive, defense, and industrial markets while maintaining its commitment to innovation and precision.

Located just outside Detroit, in Roseville, Michigan our facility is equipped to handle the full range of precision machining and grinding work — from prototype development to full production runs.
Modern CNC turning and milling centers, dedicated grinding equipment for ID, OD, and surface work, and advanced inspection technology including our Zeiss Contura G2 CMM — all under one roof.
